(10 November 2008)-The ZINASU, Information and Publicity Secretary Comrade Blessing Vava was unlawfully arrested on Saturday night under unclear circumstances in the city centre.
Vava was coming from a foodcourt in the city with the ZINASU Legal Affairs Secretary, Courage Ngwarai around 8pm when he was approached by a group of uniformed policemen who immediately tried to forcefully arrest him with no charges pressed on him.
He tried to resist arrest as no charges were pressed against him and was subsequently beaten by rowdy police officers with baton sticks and clenched fists accusing him of trying to undermine authority by resisting arrest. He was seriously injured in the process. He has not had any medical attention since the arrest. According to MIZ sources, Vava was still in police detention late this afternoon.
